Purdue Completes Opening Day of Outdoor Season at USF

TAMPA, Fla. – Purdue Outdoor Track & Field completed its opening day of the 2025 season at the USF Alumni Invitational.
 
Men's Notes
Joel Gomez finished seventh in the 800m with a personal best 1:51.38. after his pervious best was 1:53.11. Hugh Jacobsmeyer followed close behind (1:51.98) in his outdoor collegiate debut.
Leo Maxwell opened his season with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw (60.30m / 197-10.00). He qualified for the finals with a throw of 60.21m (197-06.00) in the prelims.
Grant Gogel took ninth with a personal-best 5.16m (16-11.00) in the pole vault.
Nolan Macklin opened his outdoor season with a 21.09 (+2.6 m/s) in the 200m to finish 11th.
 
Women's Notes
Jila Vaden had the highest finish by a Boilermaker when she finished third with a wind-aided 5.95m (19-06.25) in the long jump. The meet was her outdoors collegiate debut.
Britannie Johnson took fifth in the shot put (15.29m / 50-02.00). The throw placed her seventh in Purdue history.
Payne Turney ran a personal-best 2:10.15 in the 800m for the highest finish by a Boilermaker (13th) in the field of 43 runners.
Alexia Smith led the group running in the 200m with her 24.36 (+2.2 m/s).
