WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Coming down to the final court in play, the No. 60 Purdue men's tennis team suffered a 3-4 loss vs. Northwestern, snuffing out the team's perfect 9-0 home streak.
The match came on the heels of a top-20 takedown on Friday night vs. No. 20 Illinois and with Sunday's result, Purdue split the weekend, 1-1. The Boilermakers closed the weekend with a 9-4 (1-3 Big Ten) record while Northwestern improves to 10-8 (3-1 Big Ten).
The Wildcats had an answer for each of the Boilermakers' points, tying the match with the first singles point and again at 2-2 before taking the 3-2 advantage. With two courts remaining in play, freshman Nour Fathalla gave Purdue the equalizer, thanks to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Boilermakers ultimately fell in three sets on the final court.
Purdue continues its homestand next weekend at Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers will play Friday at 4 p.m. ET vs. Michigan before taking on Michigan State on Sunday at noon ET.
