HOW IT HAPPENED

After three scoreless innings of work for Gossett, including five strikeouts, the Boilermakers broke through in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs. Singles from Banks and an error from Villanova put two runners aboard. Alivia Meeks came up clutch for Purdue, with a timely three-run home run, the first of her career.
Gossett and the Boilermakers cruised through two more scoreless innings, until Villanova added two singles in the sixth, which broke up the perfect game for Gossett. The Wildcats eventually plated four runs in the inning, due to a grand slam after a Purdue pitching change.

Purdue answered back in a big way in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back-to-back singles from Jordyn Ramos, Banks, and Polar plated the tying run, before a double from Gossett scored two more. On a combination of a single from Ryen Ross and an error from Villanova, the Boilers plated the seventh run.

Villanova scored one in the top of the seventh, but the Boilers hung on to earn their first victory of the year, with Kendall Klochack earning the win on the mound.
