Elrod Breaks Pentathlon School Record in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Jalen Elrod breaks the women's pentathlon school record with 4,218 points as Purdue Indoor Track & Field completed its first day at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. The men's heptathlon completed the first four events and will resume on Saturday.
 
Men's Notes
Andreas Hantson concluded the first four events of the heptathlon in second place (3,130 points). He took first in the long jump (7.11m / 23-04.00) and shot put (13.35m / 43-09.75). Hantson set a personal best in the 60m (7.30) and shot put.
Logan Sandlin finished day one with 2,670 points. He set a new personal best in the shot put (12.29m / 40-04.00)
 
Women's Notes
• Elrod took event wins in the 800m (2:12.47), long jump (6.10m / 20.00.25) and shot put (12.09m / 39-08.00) with personal-best performances. She also took second in the 60mH (8.44) and tied a personal best in the high jump (1.58m / 5-02.25).
• Elrod's point total also moves her into the top 10 of Division I. Her long jump entered the program rankings tied for sixth.
Angeline Amefia's 3,826 points finished fifth. The performance moves her up one spot in the program rankings to eighth.  
 
Next Up
The heptathlon concludes in New Mexico on Saturday with the 60mH, pole vault and 1000m, while Jila Vaden will long jump in Indianapolis, Ind.
