WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team is set to take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday, February 23, at 11 a.m. ET. This matchup will mark the Boilermakers' Big Ten opener for the season and will include Boilermaker Special rides from 11 a.m. to Noon ET and free key chain giveaway.
THINGS TO KNOW:
- Juana Larranaga sealed Purdue's victory behind a 7-5 Set 1 tiebreak victory and 6-4 win. Larranaga's match-clinching win marked the second match this season she's produced the winner (last: Purdue's 4-3 victory vs. Xavier on 1/31).
- Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara were tied with the No. 18 doubles pair in the country, Tulsa's Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings, 4-4 and were up, 15-love in the next game. The Boilermakers were making a comeback after an early 0-2 deficit, but were unable to complete the match after Purdue's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles parings fell.
- Freshman Ece Gencer has been building on a strong debut season, holding an impressive 16-4 record.
- Senior Carmen Gallardo Guevara is aiming for her fourth consecutive win against the Hoosiers, having secured three straight victories since the spring of 2022.
- For the first time since 2013, Purdue will open Big Ten play against Indiana. In that matchup, the Boilermakers secured a 5-2 victory over the Hoosiers in West Lafayette.
LOOKING AHEAD:
- Purdue head coach Laura Glitz aims to build on her success against the Hoosiers, holding a 10-7 record since her hire in 2007. She has dominated the rivalry in recent years, winning six of the last seven matchups since April 2018.
- The Indiana Hoosiers women's tennis team is looking to get their first road victory of the 2025 season.
- Redshirt senior Lara Schneider has been a standout for the Hoosiers this spring, she has secured victories in six of her seven matches, with the remaining match going unfinished.
