Boilermakers Complete Comeback vs. Memphis

Final Stats Opens in a new window
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In comeback fashion, the Purdue women's tennis team took down Memphis, 4-3, scoring the last four consecutive singles points to win the dual. With the victory, the Boilermakers record their second win of the weekend (W, 4-3 vs. Xavier on Friday), as they improve to a 4-1 record while Xavier falls to 2-4.

Purdue's No. 4 and No. 1 singles of Ece Gencer and Carmen Gallardo Guevara went the distance during the three and a half-hour match. Despite both Boilermakers trailing 2-4 in Set 3, the Boilermakers stormed back for the victory, with Gencer taking the final set 6-4 and Gallardo Guevara winning 7-5.

Down 0-3, Kathryn Wilson began the momentum during singles play at the No. 6 position with Purdue's first point of the dual. Soon after, No. 3 singles Juana Larranaga completed her match to put the Boilermakers in position with just Gencer and Gallardo Guevara's courts remaining in play.

Meanwhile, in doubles, Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Tara Katarina Milic blanked the Tigers in doubles with a bagel to improve to a 3-1 doubles record this spring. Memphis went on to take the point after extra points were needed on the final court to decide a victor.

Purdue's next competition will take place in two weeks with midday matchup vs. DePaul on Friday, February 14. The match, beginning at Noon ET, will be followed by a showdown vs. Tulsa on Sunday, February 16 at 11 a.m. ET.
