ROSEMONT, Ill. – After a weekend in which he hit safely, drove in a run and scored a run in all four games while racking up eight hits and eight RBI, Purdue Baseball's Logan Sutter garnered the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor of the new season.
In the Boilermakers' four-game sweep of Stephen F. Austin, Sutter was a constant as the cleanup hitter while starting at a different position on all three days of the series. He started both games of Friday's doubleheader at first base, moved to third base for Saturday's win and was the designated hitter Sunday.
Sutter finished the weekend 8-for-14 (.571/.667/1.000) with three doubles, a home run, eight RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases while reaching base safely in 12 of his 18 plate appearances. He was the only Boilermaker to do any of the three – hit safely, record an RBI, score a run – in every game of the series while simultaneously accomplishing the trifecta.
With Purdue leading 2-1 in the season opener, Sutter homered to lead off the eighth inning. The nightcap of the doubleheader was tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the eighth and Sutter delivered the game-winning RBI with a two-out single in the frame. He finished the weekend 5-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Sutter drove in six runs over the final two games of the series as the Boilermakers erupted for a combined 30 runs. Sunday, he connected for RBI doubles in the first, second and eighth innings while reaching base safely five times. As a team, Purdue hit for the cycle in its five-run first inning.
