BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boilermakers swept day two of the Joan Joyce Classic, defeating NC State (5-3) 7-0, and Dartmouth (0-3) 9-6.

Alivia Meeks hit her second home run of the year, the second of her career, while Madi Elish pitched a complete game shutout in the victory over NC State. Sage Scarmardo went 3-for-4 in the win over Dartmouth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the rematch against NC State, the Boilermakers struck first, coming on an RBI single from Sage Scarmardo to score Khloe Banks. Banks and Moriah Polar began the inning with back-to-back singles.

The Boilers exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third, beginning with a single from Ashlynn Campbell. After a walk from Khloe Banks and back-to-back errors from the Wolfpack, Purdue plated two runs. Jordyn Ramos added onto the lead with a double to center to score Polar, before a single from Alivia Meeks brought in Scarmardo.

The run support continued with a two-run homer from Meeks in the bottom of the fifth. Meeks scored along with Delaney Reefe, who reached base on a dropped third strike earlier in the inning. 

Madi Elish went the distance for the Boilers, pitching all seven innings, and throwing her second-ever shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the bottom of the first, the Boilermakers plated four runs on three hits with one Dartmouth error. Khloe Banks led off the inning with an infield single before Moriah Polar reached on an error. After a walk to Julia Gossett, Sage Scarmardo doubled in two runs. Jordyn Ramos followed with another double to score Gossett.

The next inning, Purdue added one more run on a triple from Kyndall Bailey which scored Polar who singled to get on base. 

After a scoreless third on both sides, Purdue plated three in the bottom of the fourth, after Dartmouth earned one in the top of the inning. Meeks led off with a double, before Campbell reached on an error which brought Meeks all the way around. On a sac, Banks scored Campbell to increase the lead to 7-1. Polar continued the inning with a single and was doubled in by Gossett to bring the lead to 8-1 after the fourth.

Dartmouth came fighting back in the fifth, plating three runs and adding on two more in the sixth to make it a two-run ball game.
 

In the top of the seventh, Scarmardo added on an insurance run for the Boilers with a single that scored Polar. Emma Bailey came to the mound for the final 1.2 innings and closed out the game.
 

UP NEXT

The Boilers will finish out the Joan Joyce Classic with a final game on Sunday, Feb. 16 against Louisville. Purdue will head to UAB the following weekend for the Green and Gold Classic.
