SUGAR LAND, Texas – Purdue Baseball scored six times in the first inning and kept scoring while pounding out five doubles on the night, rolling past Stephen F. Austin 14-2 Saturday to clinch a series victory in the four-game set.

For the third game in a row, Purdue's starting pitcher was not charged with an earned run. Easton Storey gave up just three hits over 4 1/3 innings in the sophomore's first start (and longest outing) as a Boilermaker. Purdue pitchers have surrendered only five runs (one earned) over the first 27 innings of the series. Limiting SFA to two extra-base hits and five walks has helped key the opening-weekend success.

Logan Sutter, Avery Moore and Lukas Cook all had three RBI for the Boilermakers (3-0). Back from the elbow injury that sidelined him for all of 2024, Cook connected for a pair of RBI doubles. Moore barreled up for a two-out, two-run double to right center in his at-bat as the big blow of the six-run first inning when Purdue sent 10 men to the plate.

SATURDAY'S LEADERS
Lukas Cook: 3-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R
Avery Moore: 1-for-2, 2B, 3 RBI, Sac Fly, R
Logan Sutter: 2-for-3, 3 RBI, HBP, 2 R
Keenan Spence: 1-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 R
Easton Storey: 4 1/3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 77 Pitches
Gavin Beuter: 2 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Sutter is now 5-for-10 with five RBI and five runs scored in the series. He opened the scoring Saturday with a two-run single down the left field line. A leadoff walk to Albert Choi and a double off the bat of Sergio DeCello set the stage for the early scoring opportunity.

Storey registered four of his five strikeouts his first time through the SFA lineup. The Lumberjacks (0-3) took advantage of a dropped foul ball in the second inning as Dylan Hummel used his extra swing to connect for a two-out, two-run triple. It was still a 6-2 game the following frame when SFA had a runner at third with one out and the heart of its lineup at the plate. Storey responded with a comebacker and a strikeout vs. the 3-4 hitters to strand the runner.

In his Purdue debut, Gavin Beuter demonstrated fortitude while stranding runners at second and third after taking over for Storey to begin the third time through the SFA lineup. With one out and runners on second and third, Beuter retired the 2-3 hitters without allowing a run to score. The big second out came via a strikeout.

The Boilermakers scored three times in the bottom half of the frame to blow the game open. Keenan Spence and Cook both connected for a two-out RBI double during the rally.

Isaac Milburn (5-4-3) and Beuter (6-4-3) both induced a double play ball to erase a leadoff single. Purdue has turned five double plays – each of the ground ball variety – over the first three games of the series.

Freshman Joe Trenerry worked a scoreless ninth inning to close out the victory in his team debut.

Sunday's series finale is slated for 2 p.m. ET. Sophomore Brayden Olson will make his first collegiate start on the mound.
