WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team will play their first match on the road of the 2025 season against the Kentucky Wildcats this Sunday, Jan. 26 at noon ET in Lexington, Kentucky.
 
THINGS TO KNOW:
  • The Boilermakers are off to a strong start with a 2-0 record after securing a 6-1 win over Illinois State in the season-opener and dominating Butler 7-0.
  • This is the ninth time in the last 10 years the program has opened the year undefeated.
  • The Boilermakers now have four ranked players in singles by ITA.
  • Junior Fatima Gutierrez, ranked No. 73 in singles, has looked particularly strong, winning her singles matches against both opponents this weekend with scores of 6-1, 6-2 in each of her matches.
  • Freshman Ida Clement, ranked No. 103 in singles, won both of her matches, defeating Illinois State 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) and went 6-1, 6-2 against Butler.

LOOKING AHEAD:
  • The Kentucky women's tennis opened 2025 with its 10th-straight season-opening win in a doubleheader by defeating East Tennessee State 6-1 and Murray State 6-1.
  • Sophomore Julia Zhu of the Wildcats, ranked No. 56 in singles, won 6-0 in both of her matchups against Murray State.
  • Purdue and Kentucky have met three times under head coach Laura Glitz, owning a 2-1 record with the squad's last meeting a year ago on February. 17, 2023 in West Lafayette. Purdue lost to Kentucky, 4-3.
