WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In Purdue women's tennis spring season-opener, the Boilermakers took down Illinois State 6-1 at Schwartz Tennis Center.
Three singles matches went to tiebreakers after Tara Katarina Milic, Ece Gencer and Ida Clement each came back in Set 2 to force the tiebreaker, with Milic winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Gencer and Clement went to10 points, with Clement winning 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) and Gencer falling in a back-and-forth nailbiter 4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (9-11) to close the day.
The women began the day with a strong doubles showing, with their No. 1 paring of Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara posting a 6-1 score followed by No. 2 paring of Fatima Gutierrez and Kathryn Wilson winning 6-3.
In singles, Gutierrez and Gallardo Guevara's dominant performances led to finishing within minutes of each other for Purdue to take the first two points in singles. Gallardo Guevara's single victory marked the 10th win over the last 12 events, dating back to October 2024.
The Boilermakers will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET vs. Butler.
