Purdue Prepares for NCAA Great Lakes Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue cross country is set for the 2024 Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday in Norton, Ohio. The race is hosted by the Mid-American Conference (MAC) at the home course of Akron.

The day at Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Course will start with the women's 6K at 11 a.m. followed by the men's 10K at 12 p.m.

All men's and women's programs competition are permitted a maximum of seven participants each in regional competition.

Nathan Walker leads the men's side as the top Purdue finisher in four of the five races this season. In last season's Great Lakes Regional he finished 28th with a personal best 10K time of 30:25.2.

Douglas Buckeridge took the top spot among Purdue participants in the Big Ten Championships with his 8K time of 23:11.6 that finished 21st. Walker followed 31st at 23:20.5.

Payne Turney is the top women's finisher for the Boilermakers in all five races this season and is coming off a personal-best 20:19.9 in the 6K at the Big Ten Championships. She finished 52nd in the race.

Caleb Williams placed 44th at the Big Ten Championships with a personal-best 23:36.5. Across the last two seasons, he improved his Great Lakes Regional finish from 55th in 2022 to 27th in 2023.

Caroline Jordan was the second women's finisher for Purdue last weekend with a 60th-place time of 20:25.1. Jason Polydoris was the other top 60 finisher last weekend with his 23:43.1 that finished 52nd.

The top two teams per region (a total of 18 programs) will receive an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships, while the other 13 programs will be selected at large during the selection show on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. Remaining qualified runners, along with the qualified teams, will participate in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Verona, Wis.
