Boilermakers Move Up Leaderboard, Tie for 6th in Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich.Natasha Kiel fired a 1-under 71 in the final round, and Purdue Women's Golf moved up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for sixth at the Mary Fossum Invitational. The Boilermakers carded a final round 292 (+4) to end the event in a tie with Michigan after besting the Wolverines by six strokes on Monday.
 
Ole Miss (-17) cruised to a 15-shot victory, while hosts Michigan State finished runner-up (-2) after a final round 280 (-8). Minnesota (+8), Florida (+10) and Miami (+20) rounded out the Top 5.
 
Kiel earned her second Top 20 finish of the season, tying for 13th (+3). After bogeys on two of her first four holes Monday, the senior played the final 14 holes 3-under par. That included going bogey free over her last 11 holes. Kiel made a team-high four birdies throughout the final round to lead to her 71 (-1) and team-best fifth par-or-better round of the season.
 
Playing golf on her 18th birthday, freshman Lauren Timpf carded a 74 (+2) to secure a tie for 15th in her first tournament in the Purdue lineup. Timpf led the Boilermakers during the first two rounds (71-75) before contributing to the team score on Monday.
 
Fellow freshman Samantha Brown shot 73 (+1), her best round of the tournament. The Westfield, Indiana, native was steady throughout her final round, making 15 pars. Brown recorded 40 pars throughout the 54-hole event, ranking second in the 84-player field.
 
Momo Sugiyama added a 74 (+2) to the team's final round total. The senior tied for 35th on the individual leaderboard (+10).

Purdue returns to action next week. After not appearing on the schedule last year, the Windy City Collegiate Classic is back on the calendar (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). The Boilermakers played in the tournament annually from 2013-22, aside from the 2020 fall season that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
