WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball's 3.13 team grade-point average during the 2023-24 school year garnered the program a Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for the third consecutive campaign.
The ABCA recognizes college and high school teams around the country that make the grade to the tune of 3.0-plus cumulative GPAs for the academic year. The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award is presented by Sports Attack.
Just as the Boilermakers enjoyed a nine-win improvement on the field during the 2024 season, so too did the team GPA improve from 3.02 during the 2022-23 school year. Purdue's 3.20 team GPA in the fall of 2023 was its best semester mark during the fall since 2014.
Greg Goff's team has also compiled a cumulative 3.06 team GPA through the end of the 2024 spring semester.

The program's Academic Bowl winners were split between Team Marx (fall) and Team Madia (spring) during the 2023-24 school year. Team Marx featured Jonathan Blackwell, Will Briggs, Couper Cornblum, Jackson Dannelley, Luke Gaffney, Ty Gill, Will Moore, Keenan Spence and Easton Storey. Team Madia was comprised of Connor Caskenette, Avery Cook, Camden Gasser, Weston Gingerich, Thomas Green and Brayden Olson.
Individually, the Boilermakers had four Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (3.7+ GPA for 2023-24) and 18 Academic All-Big Ten honorees (3.0+ cumulative GPA) for the school year. Cornblum and Green also represented Purdue on the Academic All-District squad (starters with a 3.5+ cumulative GPA). Freshmen are not eligible for any of those honors.
Twenty Boilermakers graduated this year and were recognized at the annual on-field commencement ceremony on May 16 at Alexander Field. Graduates Aaron Dolney, Jordan Morales, Blackwell and Cornblum all had 4.0 GPAs during the spring semester.
