Gallardo Guevara Named All-Big Ten

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's tennis junior Carmen Gallardo Guevara has been named All-Big Ten for the first time in her career. 
 
Gallardo Guevara went 14-3 in singles in the spring campaign, earning a 5-3 record when battling conference opponents. The junior went an undefeated 9-0 in non-conference singles matches. 
 
After starting the spring season playing at No. 2, Gallardo Guevara moved to the No. 1 singles spot and maintained the position with an 8-3 record.  At No. 2, she bested No. 125 Oleksandra Nahurska from the University of Tulsa in two straight sets, going 6-3, 6-2. 
 
Carmen Gallardo Guevara has tallied 59 career singles wins over the last three years.
 
At No. 1, Gallardo Guevara with her doubles partner Tara Katarina Milic defeated Penn State's No. 69 Karly Friedland/Olivia Dorner 7-5. 
 
Against Ole Miss, the pair claimed a 7-6(4) victory over the now-ranked No. 60 doubles pair of Ava Hrastar/Briana Crowley. 
 
Another notable win came from Purdue match against No. 2 Michigan. Gallardo Guevara/Milic earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 against Jaedan Brown/Gala Mesochoritou.
 
Gallardo Guevara is the tenth Boilermaker to garner All-Big Ten honors under head coach Laura Glitz. Her honor marked the sixth straight year for Purdue. 
 
Gallardo Guevara was named the All-Sportsmanship Award recipient for the second year in a row.
