Klochack Delivers Near-Perfect Game in Season-Opener

ATHENS, Ga. -  Head coach Magali Frezzotti and the Boilermaker softball team opened the 2024 season with a 3-0 shutout vs.the Murray State Racers. Junior lefty Kendall Klochack pitched a near-perfect game, allowing one hit in the seventh inning and no walks.

Klochack picked up her first win of the season, sending five of her first nine batters back to the dugout before ending the day with a career-high-tying six strikeouts in just her eighth career start and her first complete game.

The Racers were unable to answer the Boilermakers' three runs which were scored in the second and fifth innings.

Freshman left fielder Moriah Polar began her collegiate career with a team-leading two hits, including a two RBI double in the fifth inning. Defensively, she came up with the catch at the wall in the top of the second to keep the no-hitter alive.

Designated player Kyndall Bailey scored Purdue's game-winner in the bottom of the second after stealing third and scoring, unearned, on a Racer throwing error.

The win was the first of two games for Purdue's opening day at the Red & Black Showcase. Purdue continues action with a doubleheader, facing South Dakota following a 30-minute break.
