WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's tennis team is set to open the new year with a home match against Ball State at 1pm on Sunday, Jan. 14.
The season opener marks the 17th season for head coach Laura Glitz, the winningest coach in Boilermaker tennis history. Along with assistant coach Daniela Vidal, who is entering her fifth season on the women's tennis staff, Glitz aims to build upon last year's season when the team ended the year ranked at No. 49 by ITA. Purdue returns six of its eight players from the 2022-23 season. Junior Carmen Gallardo Guevara begins the campaign at No. 113 in ITA singles rankings, her first time being ranked.
The upcoming match will be the second meeting between the two teams since 1992. In the most recent battle against Ball State on Jan. 22, 2023, Purdue bested the Cardinals 4-3. Purdue remains undefeated against the Cardinals with an all-time series record of 15-0 with the Boilermakers surrendering just 17 points.
In their 2023 campaign, Ball State went 11-2, going 9-1 in conference play. The Cardinals won the Mid-American Conference Tournament in 2016 and 2022. Sachin Kirtane enters his first season as head coach with four returning players and three newcomers.

MEET THE TEAM:
Calissa Dellabarca – The sophomore transfer from UC Santa Barbara was ranked the No. 1 player in New Mexico while competing at the high school level. Dellabarca went 6-4 in doubles throughout her first fall season as a Boilermaker.
Csilla Fodor – Fodor starts her final campaign in West Lafayette ranked among the top-10 in Boilermaker history in career singles victories with 72 wins so far. The fifth-year senior picked up a record of 9-3 in singles this fall, including two wins against ranked opponents.
Carmen Gallardo Guevara – The junior is currently ranked No. 113 in singles nationally after earning a 10-1 record in her most recent fall campaign. Gallardo Guevara tallied a career singles record of 35-25, going 9-8 against Big Ten opponents.
Kennedy Gibbs – The sophomore went 11-1 in singles and 9-3 in doubles this fall. Gibbs won 10 of her first 12 singles matches as a freshman, gaining a 5-4 record against Big Ten opponents.
Juana Larranaga – Larranaga went 10-3 in singles and 9-3 in doubles in 2023 fall play, making her career singles mark 45-25. When battling against Big Ten opponents, the junior has obtained a 4-3 doubles mark.
Tara Katarina Milic – Over the junior's collegiate career, she has totaled 36 double victories, going 10-6 at No. 1. As a sophomore, Milic went 1-1 against ranked opponents in doubles play, defeating No. 55 Aran Teixido Garcia/Emily Meyer from the University of Memphis.
Ashlie Wilson – Wilson competed in two doubles matches in her sophomore fall season with partner Juana Larranaga, winning both. She battled in 10 matches during her freshman season.
