WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue soccer head coach Richard Moodie has completed his first coaching staff with the Boilermakers, as Carson Hamner has been named an assistant coach.

Hamner will focus on individual player development and data analysis with Purdue. He comes to West Lafayette from his alma mater, South Alabama, where he was on Moodie's staff for two seasons in a variety of roles. Hamner's hiring now finalizes Moodie's Boilermaker coaching staff, along with associate head coach Rob Ward and assistant coach Adrian Ferreira Cabado. The soccer staff also includes supervisor of operations Ashley Perry, strength & conditioning coach Wally Becker and athletic trainer Kirstin Lueken, among many others, all who are remaining with the program.

"Carson served as a graduate assistant with our staff at South Alabama and we are excited to now have him in a full-time role," Moodie said. "He has been instrumental with our player development pathway, which we strive to continue here at Purdue. Carson will oversee our individual development program and data analytics."

Hamner, a native of Mobile, Alabama, worked with Moodie, Ward and Ferreira Cabado at South Alabama, first as a student assistant in 2022 and then as a graduate assistant in 2023. In his two seasons, he helped the Jaguars win a Sun Belt Conference championship and eight total conference player of the year honors.

"I am extremely happy to be a part of the soccer program and athletics department at Purdue University," Hamner said. "It is such an amazing opportunity to work with these outstanding athletes and help with their individual development. A big thank you to Coach Moodie for giving me the chance to be a part of the staff. Boiler Up!"

In seven seasons at South Alabama, Moodie and his staff maintained a winning culture, with seven conference championships, three regular-season and four postseason, from 2017-20. Ward was an assistant coach all seven years, Hamner joined in 2022 and Ferreira Cabado was added in 2023. Moodie and his staff coached 19 players to individual Sun Belt postseason awards and 44 all-conference honors.

As a graduate assistant in 2023, Hamner analyzed data and player loads, conducted individual training sessions with players and oversaw the video and gps tracking systems. South Alabama earned a 16-1-3 overall record and won the Sun Belt with an 8-0-2 mark. The Jaguars collected the league's Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year awards. The team went 15-0-3 in the regular season, the first unbeaten campaign in program history, as USA outscored its opponents 50-7.

Hamner was a student assistant in 2022, where a main responsibility of his was data analytics. USA posted an 11-2-7 record overall, going 6-1-3 in league play. The team once again earned Sun Belt Player, Offensive Player, Newcomer and Freshman of the Year honors, and the postseason awards also included one Academic All-America recognition.

Hamner graduated from South Alabama in 2023 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science.
