WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team is back home for a nationally-televised contest on the Big Ten Network against Iowa at Folk Field on Thursday, September 28, at 6 p.m. ET.
 
Admission is free for all fans to the contest and to each regular-season home game in 2023. Thursday is $2 Beer Night, with beer available for just $2 for fans 21 and older. There also will be a Purdue bucket hat giveaway for early-arriving students. As a reminder to all fans, a clear bag policy is in effect for all Purdue Athletics events once again in 2023.
 
The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, with Jack Kizer and Lauren Link on the call. Live stats are available at PurdueStats.com. Purdue returns to West Lafayette with a 3-7-1 record, a 0-2-1 mark in Big Ten play and a 3-4-0 record at Folk Field. The Boilermakers have played four top-25 teams, and another two past opponents are ranked or receiving votes in the latest polls. Purdue has allowed two goals in three Big Ten games, tied for second-best in the conference, and the defense has given up one or zero goals in seven of the eleven games.
 
The Boilermakers have scored 15 goals with 18 assists for 48 points on 134 shots and 54 shots on target. Eight of Purdue's 15 goals have come from different players, and four of those are first career goals. The Old Gold and Black have allowed 16 goals on 115 shots, 52 on goal, for a .692 save percentage and a 1.45 goals-against average.
 
Sophomore forward Kayla Budish paces the team with eight points, and she and junior forward/midfielder Gracie Dunaway share the team lead of three goals. Dunaway also leads the squad with 25 shots and is second on the team with six points, along with senior midfielder Emily Mathews and junior forward Megan Hutchinson. Mathews has a team-leading four assists, and freshman forward Lauren Omholt's 12 shots on goal is the best on the team. In goal, senior Charlotte Cyr has made 29 saves with a 1.70 goals-against average and a .644 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING IOWA
Iowa is 6-1-3 with a 0-1-2 Big Ten record. The Hawkeyes are 3-1-1 on the road, with a 1-0 loss at Wisconsin on September 21 the team's lone conference road game. UI is coming off a goalless draw to Minnesota on September 24, and the team also owns a 1-1 tie to Illinois to begin league play.
 
The Hawkeyes are receiving votes in the latest College Soccer News rankings.
 
Iowa is No. 4 nationally with a 0.300 goals-against average and fifth with a .96 save percentage. The Hawkeyes are seventh in the NCAA with a .700 shutout percentage. They have scored 14 goals with 11 assists for 39 points with 143 shots, 67 on goal. UI has allowed three goals on 67 shots.
 
Individually, Macy Enneking is sixth in the country with six shutouts and eighth with a .906 save percentage and a 0.305 goals-against average. While starting all 10 games, she has made 29 saves with three goals allowed. Elle Otto paces the team with three goals and Kenzie Roling has four assists and eight points to lead the squad. Kelli McGroarty has a team-best 23 shots.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE HAWKEYES
Purdue owns an 8-10-5 record all-time against Iowa and a 5-3-2 mark in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers are 2-1-2 in the last five matchups after a 2-2 draw on the road in 2022. In the last meeting at Folk Field, Purdue won a 2-1 overtime contest in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion.
 
A year ago, on October 13, 2022, in Iowa City, the Boilermakers took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Budish, and the visitors made it 2-0 as Mathews converted a penalty kick in the 42nd. The Hawkeyes answered to tie the game early in the second half in the 46th minute and got the equalizer in the 55th. A complete recap is available here.
 
In 2021, on September 26 at Folk Field, Purdue notched a 2-1 overtime win. Then-senior forward Sarah Griffith tied the match at 1-1 with 18.9 seconds left in regulation before then-senior midfielder Teagan Jones won it in the 98th minute. Their heroics came after the Hawkeyes scored the game's first goal in the 87th minute. LAST TIME OUT: RAINY EAST COAST DEFEAT
Purdue concluded a two-game east coast roadtrip with a 2-1 loss at Rutgers on September 24. On a rainy and windy Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field, the Boilermakers had a flurry of chances throughout the contest, and controlled much of the play, but could not get the equalizer after the Scarlet Knights found the game's lone goal in the second minute.
 
Purdue recorded a season-high-tying 19 shots, six on target, while holding Rutgers to 10 shots, four on frame. Both teams had seven corner kicks, a season-best total for Purdue, and the home side was called for 13 fouls to the visitors' eight. Three yellow cards were shown in the contest, all to RU.
 
Mathews had a game-high, and season-best, four shots. Senior forward Zoie Allen and sophomore forward Brooke Haarala both came off the bench and registered a career-high-tying three shots, and Allen had a match-best two shots on goal. Cyr made three saves and Rutgers' keeper stopped all six shots she faced.

UP NEXT: OFF TO WISCONSIN
Purdue is back on the road to conclude the week with a visit to Wisconsin on Sunday, October 1. Kickoff in Madison is at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT. The Boilermakers then come back to Folk Field for a rivalry matchup against Indiana on Sunday, October 8, at 1 p.m. ET. Admission is free for all fans as Purdue will look to retain the Golden Boot Trophy for the ninth consecutive year. It is Kids Club Day and there will be a scarf giveaway for students.
