WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball closes out fall practice with its Black & Gold Series, the annual three-game intrasquad showdown that is always open to the public at Alexander Field.
All three games will be contested regardless of the results of the first days, which are slated for Thursday at 3:30 p.m., Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free for all three games.
Rosters were drafted Monday evening after a team meal at Big O's Sports Room. John Madia and Daniel Furuto again teamed up as the general managers of the Black Team while Chris Marx and Hunter Roberts did likewise for the Gold Team. Players were drafted by position group and presented a black or gold jersey after their name was called.
The Black Team rallied to win last year's Black & Gold Series after dropping Thursday's opener. Mike Bolton Jr. reached base safely eight times in the series and scored five runs. Jake Parr had three hits and three RBI. Zach Fletcher (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K) and Khal Stephen (3 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 K) were very effective in their three innings.
The Black Team scored 15 runs in the series, 12 crossing home plate over the first and second innings.
