Rutgers is the Boilermakers' fourth ranked foe of the year and their third in the last seven games. The 2022 campaign began with a 3-0 win over No. 15 USC in front of a record-breaking crowd at Folk Field. No. 9 Notre Dame visited West Lafayette on September 8 and Purdue traveled to No. 18 Northwestern to open Big Ten play 10 days later.

Sunday is a matchup between the top two teams in the Big Ten in 2021, as Purdue was second with an 8-2-0 league mark, tied for its best-ever finish, behind Rutgers' 10-0-0 record. The middle game of a three-match homestand for the Boilermakers, Sunday also is their fourth of six games to air on national television in 2022.

Purdue is coming off a 1-1 draw to Nebraska on Thursday night at Folk Field. The Boilermakers are 3-7-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in Big Ten play, as two of the team's first four Big Ten opponents currently are in the top-25, in addition to Rutgers.

Rutgers is 10-1-1 and 2-1-1 in the Big Ten after a 1-1- draw at No. 8 Northwestern on Thursday. The Scarlet Knights opened the year 9-0-0, but are 1-1-1 in their last three.

Statistically, junior midfielder Emily Mathews' five assists is fourth in the Big Ten and No. 38 nationally and sophomore forward Gracie Dunaway is No. 7 in the league with five goals and No. 10 with 12 points. Freshman forward Kayla Budish paces the team with 23 shots, she has 10 shots on goal to share the team lead with Dunaway, and she is second with two goals and six points.

SERIES HISTORY VS. RUTGERS
Purdue is 0-5-1 all-time against Rutgers, though the Scarlet Knights have been to Folk Field just twice, in the 2015 and 2020-21 seasons. After the first-ever meeting at Rutgers in 2014, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw in West Lafayette on October 11, 2015.

Three road games followed before Purdue hosted the last matchup between the two teams in 2020-21, on February 28, 2021. In the only meeting in the all-time series where Rutgers was not nationally ranked, RU earned a 1-0 win. Four current Boilermakers started in that game, and three more came off the bench. Now-fifth-year midfielder Sydney Duarte had two shots, second-most on the team.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers owns a 10-1-1 mark in 2022 and a 2-1-1 record in Big Ten play. RU is 2-1-1 away from home and plays its third road game in four matches on Sunday. A 9-0-0 start to the season was capped by a 2-0 win over No. 21 Ohio State and was followed by a 2-0 loss at No. 17 Penn State. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 1-1 draw at No. 8 Northwestern on September 29.

Sophomore forward Gracie Dunaway scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 73rd minute to give the Boilermakers a 1-0 lead, but the Huskers answered with the equalizer two minutes later. Purdue had a strong offensive push in the final 15 minutes, and nearly netted the game-winning goal in the final seconds, but the home side could not find a second goal.

Dunaway's goal was one of two shots she had in the contest, while freshman forward Kayla Budish had a team-best three shots. In goal, freshman Kailey Kimball made a career-best five saves. While the Boilermakers were out-shot 21-9 and were edged 6-3 in shots on goal, opportunities in the final third were shared between both sides throughout the match.
