WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tony Webb and Hunter Roberts are the newest additions to the Purdue baseball staff as the program welcomes new leaders for strength & conditioning and team operations.
After previously working with Purdue head coach Greg Goff at Louisiana Tech and Alabama, Webb has transitioned to baseball's strength coach after being as an associate director of strength & conditioning with Purdue football since February 2021.
Roberts is the new supervisor of operations, replacing alumnus Ross Learnard after Learnard moved on to Indianapolis to become the pitching coach at Butler University. Roberts comes to Purdue from Central Arkansas, where he served in a dual role as the director of baseball operations and athletic ticket manager for the primary team sports.
Webb has worked in strength & conditioning since 2010, following his transition from team captain on the football team to a dual role as a strength & conditioning and position coach at his alma mater Louisiana College (now known as Louisiana Christian University). As a player, he was as four-year letterwinner, leadership council member and honored as the team's most outstanding defensive lineman. The dean's list student earned his bachelor's degree in communications.
Webb also worked with Goff from 2014 to 2015 at Louisiana Tech and in 2017 at Alabama. He's served as the director of strength & conditioning at Southern University and enjoyed multi-year stints as a strength coach with the football programs at Eastern Illinois and Southern California.
"I am excited for the opportunity and privilege to be a part of Purdue baseball," Webb said. "Coach Goff and I first met eight years ago at Louisiana Tech, where I developed a tremendous amount of respect for him as a person and a coach. We also had the opportunity to team up again at Alabama a few years later. When I had the opportunity to come to Purdue in the winter of 2021, Coach Goff's relationship with Coach Brohm certainly played to my benefit. And while my time with football has been a great experience, I am looking forward to working directly with Coach Goff, his staff and being a part of what they are building."
Roberts added baseball operations to his duties with UCA Athletics in October 2020. He took a lead role in the program's budget and the travel arrangements, including hotels, meals, flights and buses. As a liaison between the team and the public, he was also was the lead contact for ticket allotments and facility arrangements for practices while assisting with social media. As the athletic ticket manager since March 2019, he worked with football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball as the gameday lead for both tickets and security staff.
Roberts earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Missouri State and a master's in sports management from Central Arkansas. He worked with the Springfield Cardinals (Double-A affiliate) during the 2016 Minor League Baseball season and Missouri State baseball during the 2018 college season. As an external affairs intern at Evansville during the 2018-19 school year, he was in line to assist with UE baseball that spring before accepting the offer to join the ticket staff at UCA in March of that year.
"This opportunity at Purdue is a dream and I'm excited to make the best of it," Roberts said. "I am thankful to be a part of an amazing coaching staff and a school with strong traditions. I'm a guy who keeps the grinder mentality and wants the best for everyone at Alexander Field."
