PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Purdue men's golf team shaved six shots off its first-round score, but could only move up one team spot after 36 holes at the NCAA Regional Championships held at the PGA National Resort.
The Boilermakers totaled a day two-tally of 11-over par 299 to sit in 11th place after 36 holes at 28-over par 604 (305-299). Purdue is 18 shots off the fifth-place cutline, needing a miraculous final round to advance to the National Championships for the first time since 2017.
Vanderbilt continues to lead the field at 9-under par 567, nine shots ahead of Florida State and 11 ahead of Florida. South Florida is fourth at 6-over par while College of Charleston currently owns the No. 5 position at 10-over par 586.
Purdue is just seven shots out of seventh place, occupied by three teams (Little Rock, San Diego and Davidson).
Playing at the site of PGA Tour's Honda Classic, second-round scores were over a half-stroke better than Monday's opening round. The average score of the 75 golfers was 75.00 in the second round, compared to 75.63 in the first round.
Purdue was once again plagued by penalty shots as five of its six double-bogeys were a result of hitting the ball into a water hazard. Purdue has had 11 double-bogeys or worse this week as a result of hitting the ball into a hazard.
Herman Sekne and Joe Weiler lead Purdue through 36 holes at 6-over par 150. Andrew Farraye is tied for 43rd at 9-over par 153, while Cole Bradley is tied for 50th at 10-over par 154. Nick Dentino is tied for 63rd at 13-over par 157.
Purdue will tee off hole No. 10 in Wednesday's final round, starting at 8:55 a.m. ET, and be paired with Davidson and Indiana.
