[10] Wisconsin 70, [8] Purdue 67 (Postgame Notes)
- Purdue fell to 24-6 overall and 13-6 in the Big Ten with a 70-67 loss to No. 10 Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.
- Aside from a setback to Michigan on Feb. 10, Purdue's five losses have been by two, five, three, three and three points (16 combined points). Four of the losses have been on last-second 3-pointers, including in each of the last two games.
- Purdue has trailed by double-digits in seven games this year. It has come back to win three of them, and nearly pulled off three more double-digit comebacks, before being defeated on last-second 3-pointers.
- Purdue is 24-0 in games that it scores 70 or more points. It is 0-6 when held under 70 points.
- Jaden Ivey and Zach Edey scored Purdue's last 28 points of the game.
- Jaden Ivey tallied 22 points (17 in the second half) with five rebounds, five assists and a steal. He surpassed the 500-point mark on the season (first player since Carsen Edwards in 2019) and now needs just 10 rebounds and 10 assists to become the third Purdue underclassmen (freshman or sophomore) with 500 points, 150 rebounds and 100 assists in a season. (E'Twaun Moore in 2009; Caleb Swanigan in 2017).
- The 22-point game was Ivey's 11th 20-point game of the season. The All-America candidate is now averaging 17.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
- Zach Edey tallied 17 points with 9 rebounds and a blocked shot in only 23 minutes of action.
- Purdue lost for the first time this season when Sasha Stefanovic scores in double-figures, now 15-1 on the season and 33-6 in his career. He scored 11 points with three 3-pointers, now with 215 for his career.
- Purdue's bench managed just six points, just the second time this season it has been held under 10 points (the other was a loss to Indiana).
MADISON, Wis. -- Chucky Hepburn banked in a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left to give No. 10 Wisconsin a 70-67 victory over No. 8 Purdue on Tuesday night that clinched the Badgers a share of the Big Ten regular-season title.
After Wisconsin's Brad Davison missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity, Purdue's Jaden Ivey tied the game by sinking a 3-pointer with 8.9 seconds remaining. TheBadgers worked the ball to Hepburn, who calmly fired the winning shot from in front of Wisconsin's bench.
Hepburn celebrated by running toward the student section on the opposite end of the floor with his arms outstretched. The freshman guard finished the night with a career-high 17 points.As Purdue tried to set up a desperation 3-point attempt, Wisconsin's Tyler Wahl intercepted Trevion Williams' inbounds pass. Wahl threw the ball aloft as the horn sounded and Wisconsin's students stormed the court.
Wisconsin (24-5, 15-4 Big Ten) has won five straight and now has at least a share of its 20th Big Ten regular-season title. A victory Sunday at home against Nebraska would give the Badgers their first outright conference title since 2015, when they went on to reach the NCAA Tournament championship game.
The Badgers also completed first regular-season sweep of the Boilermakers (24-6, 13-6) since 2014, as the Badgers won 74-69 at Purdue on Jan. 3.
Wahl scored 16 points for Wisconsin, and Johnny Davis had 16 points and eight rebounds. Davis had collected 37 points and 14 rebounds in Wisconsin's victory at Purdue.
Ivey scored 22, Zach Edey had 17 and Stefan Stefanovic added 11 for Purdue, which lost its second straight. Ivey and Edey combined to score Purdue's last 28 points.
