WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Jake Parr delivered a two-RBI double during a five-run first inning and Griffin Lohman retired the opposition's 1-2-3 hitters to strand the bases loaded while closing out the game, leading the Black Team to a 7-4 victory Friday in game 2 of Purdue baseball's Black & Gold Series.

The Black Team evened the series and set up a winner-take-all rubber match in the three-game intrasquad series. Saturday's game is slated for a 10:50 a.m. first pitch at Alexander Field.

Curtis Washington Jr. hit a long home run over the left field bullpen in the fifth inning for the Gold Team. But he was unable to help his team extend the game after Gold had the bases loaded and the tying run at first base with no outs in the final frame.

Lohman won matchups with Washington and Ty Gill, striking out both batters before inducing a foul pop up off the bat of CJ Valdez for the final out.

Carter Doorn seemed poised to close out the six-inning game entering the final frame, working with a 7-3 lead after retiring six of the first eight batters he faced – four via the strikeout. Tanner Haston walked and Tyler Powers singled to center field to open the sixth. Doorn induced a potential double play ball to shortstop, but instead the ball skipped into short left center, allowing Haston to score. When Lohman walked Robert Mannino, who's only been retired one time in five plate appearances in the series, it loaded the bases for Washington and the top of the lineup.

The Black Team sent 11 batters to the plate in its five-run first inning, drawing five free passes in the frame. Parr's opposite-field double into right center with the bases loaded was the big hit. Moments earlier the game's first run scored when a fly ball was dropped in left field. Jack Firestone's fly ball to center field plated the fifth and final run of the rally as the fourth sacrifice fly of the series to come in the first inning.

The Gold Team enjoyed an 8-5 edge in the hit column but stranded eight runners on base. Four of those eight hits were strung together with two outs in the top of the second. Cam Hill and Washington delivered RBI singles during that stretch after Gold benefited from Evan Albrecht and Parr not being on the same page on a ball hit by Powers deep into the hole on the right side. Instead of finishing off a 1-2-3 inning for Landon Weins, it ignited the rally.

Gold kept the momentum until the bottom of the fourth thanks in part to double plays that erased leadoff walks in the second and third innings.

Ryan Howe's fourth hit of the series and a double by Paul Toetz led to a pair of insurance runs for the Black Team in the fourth inning. Jake Stadler cut down a pair of base stealers at second base to account for two of the three outs in the frame.

Nolan Daniel worked three innings of one-hit relief for the Gold Team. Weins struck out five of the 15 batters he faced as the starting pitcher for the Black Team.
