WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue volleyball is excited to announce Kathy Jewell was promoted to Assistant Head Coach – Recruiting Coordinator on September 1, 2021.

Jewell, formerly an assistant coach, is in her 19th season with the Boilermakers.

"Our program is extremely excited and proud of Kathy Jewell for earning a well-deserved title upgrade," said Shondell. "For nearly 19 years, Kat has committed herself to bettering Purdue Volleyball. The tireless worker is an uncanny fit to make our staff function at a productive level. Kat challenges every staff decision to be sure that we have made the correct determination. A terrific recruiting coordinator, Kat is appreciated and respected by the college volleyball nation."

As part of her responsibilities as assistant coach, Jewell has been an integral cog in the recruiting process. She has guided the way for commits by some of the most highly-touted players in the nation, and has taken part in the development of 22 All-Americans, eight Academic All-Americans and 75 All-Big Ten honorees.

Jewell, a member of the longest-tenured coaching staff in the Power Five, has helped the Boilermakers accumulate a 390-199 (.672) record, including 15 NCAA tournament appearances since joining the program. Not only have the Boilermakers advanced to the Second Round each time, they have secured three Regional Final appearances and seven Regional Semifinal berths in the last 13 seasons.

As the first member of Shondell's coaching staff to be hired in 2003, Jewell brought five years of coaching experience on various levels to the Purdue program. For three years prior to Purdue, she was an assistant coach at Central Michigan, acting as recruiting and travel coordinator while working with the outside hitters on the court.

In her three seasons with the program, Jewell also worked with the Chippewas' summer camps, community activities and high school and state Special Olympics games.

After a four-year career as an outside hitter for Division II Northern Michigan (1994 to 1997), Jewell began coaching in Louisville, Ky., with the Derby City Volleyball Club. In 1999, Jewell landed the assistant varsity coaching job at Our Lady of Providence High School in Clarksville, Ind., where she assisted with team conditioning and training as well as summer camp administration. In 2001, she coached the Valley Volleyball West 18 Elite team in St. Louis, Mich.

Jewell graduated from Northern Michigan with a bachelor's degree in management of health and fitness in 1998. In June 2011, Jewell was an assistant coach for one of two teams competing in the Bring It Promotions/USA-China Challenge, which also featured Boilermakers Catherine Rebarchak and Carly Cramer.
