WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski and head coach Dave Shondell agreed on a four-year contract extension, which will run through the 2024 season.
"The excellence of Purdue Volleyball is a source of pride for both our athletics department and university," Bobinski said. "The skilled and consistent leadership provided by head coach Dave Shondell over the years is a differentiator for us, and I'm excited to formally announce our agreement that ensures Dave will continue his good work on our behalf. We look forward to continued success in the seasons ahead."
Shondell, entering his 19th season at Purdue, has led the Boilermakers to 15 NCAA tournament appearances. Not only have the Boilermakers advanced to the Second Round each time, they have secured three Regional Final appearances and seven Regional Semifinal berths in the last 13 seasons.
"I am excited to continue this incredible journey at Purdue," Shondell said. "This coaching experience is both challenging and rewarding. The athletes, staff and supporters that I am surrounded by each day make this the best job in college coaching. I appreciate the support of athletics director Mike Bobinski and our sport administrator Calvin Williams for the contract extension."
Not only has Shondell cultivated a 388-199 (.661) record at Purdue, but he leads the longest tenured coaching staff in the Power Five (19 years). He is one of only nine head coaches to lead their team to 38 NCAA postseason matches in the last 16 years and in total, has paved the way for 22 All-Americans and 75 All-Big Ten honorees during his tenure.
Shondell and the Boilermakers are coming off the most successful season in program history, not only finishing with their highest-ever final ranking (No. 7), but a program-best five All-Big Ten honorees, including the program's first Defensive Player of the Year. Moreover, four received AVCA All-America honors under his guidance, setting another program record.
The team begins its season Friday, opening with the Reamer Club Xtra Special Volleyball Premier, which will feature LMU on Friday at 6 p.m. ET and RV Kansas on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The Boilermakers are ranked No. 8 in the preseason poll, matching yet another record as the best in program history.
