WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A record 92 Purdue student-athletes have been named Academic All-Big Ten for the spring sports season in 2021. The total topped the previous spring record of 89 set during the 2020 academic season.
The spring total, along with 68 honorees in the winter and a record 96 from the fall, gave Purdue its most Academic All-Big Ten recipients in department history with 256, smashing the 2019-20 record of 234.Purdue saw 50 student-athletes receive the academic laurel for at least the second time in their careers, while 17 earned the distinction for at least a third year. Samara Miller and Rebecca Coan of women's track & field achieved the rare feat of being named Academic All-Big Ten four times.
Andre Suzanne from men's tennis and Ian Hunter from men's track & field earned special recognition for maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time at their university for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
