WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue Athletics is proud to recognize 68 student-athletes from the winter sports season as Academic All-Big Ten performers for achieving high marks with their coursework.
The Boilermakers produced a department-record 96 Academic All-Big Ten honorees in the fall. For the 2019-20 school year, Purdue produced 234 total Academic All-Big Ten achievers during the three sports season and the department has an opportunity to surpass that total this year. The 68 winter honorees was just shy of the department record (71) from the 2018-19 school year.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time at their university for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Swimming & diving accounted for 67% (46 of 68) of the Academic All-Big Ten recipients, with both programs seeing their totals increase from last year. The women at the pool had 25 honorees and the men's program produced a team-record 21. Wrestling added 11, women's basketball had seven and four members of men's basketball made the list.
Swimmers Dale Williams and Kat Mueller earned special recognition for maintaining flawless 4.0 cumulative GPAs. As an aeronautical & astronautical engineering majoring, Williams was among a select group of 20 seniors to be three-year Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
Altogether, 39 of the 68 Boilermakers recognized this month are now multi-year Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
All six of the divers representing Purdue at the NCAA Championships this month earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, including three-time Big Ten platform champion Brandon Loschiavo. All six men's swimmers going to Greensboro for NCAAs are on the list as well. Wrestlers Parker Filius, Max Lyon and Thomas Penola also compete at the national championship meet this week.
