Boilermakers Among Top 3 in Big Ten in Team GPA

Fall 2019 CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
– As Scholar All-America Teams, Purdue swimming & diving ranked among the top three in the Big Ten Conference thanks to the impressive team grade-point averages the Boilermakers compiled during the 2019 fall semester.

The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's biannual lists of Scholar All-America Team honors were released this week. The Purdue men and women were recognized once again after both teams' GPAs climbed considerably during the first half of the 2019-20 school year.

The Purdue women ranked second in the Big Ten and among the top 20 nationally with a 3.64 team GPA. Only Michigan State (3.69) compiled a higher mark in the league. Within Purdue Athletics, John Klinge's team won the President's Cup for having the highest team GPA in the department. The Boilermakers' GPA was up from 3.41 in the fall of 2018 and 3.49 in the spring of 2019. They've now had a team GPA above 3.40 for five consecutive semesters.

The Purdue men moved into third place in the Big Ten with a 3.21 GPA, a mark that also climbed considerably from a 3.01 mark in the 2018 fall semester and 3.02 in the 2019 spring semester. Around the league, only Michigan State (3.54) and Minnesota (3.29) ranked above the Boilermakers this past fall.

Purdue and Michigan State were the only Big Ten universities to have both their men and women rank among the top three in the league in team GPA for the 2019 fall semester.

All 23 swimming & diving programs in the Big Ten – 10 men's teams, 13 women's teams – were recognized with Scholar All-America honors by the CSCAA. Individual Scholar All-America awards are announced in June along with the spring semester team accolades.

Across all three NCAA Divisions as well as the NAIA and NJCAA ranks, the CSCAA recognized a record 762 programs from 480 institutions as Scholar All-America Teams for the 2019 fall semester.

Purdue closes out its dual meet schedule this weekend by hosting Minnesota and Northwestern for the Big Ten Triple Duals. The annual Senior Day Ceremony is Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET before the meet begins at noon. Friday's day 1 events begin at 6 p.m. The first 100 fans in attendance Friday receive a free Purdue swim cap.
