Purdue Opens Calendar Year Against Iowa at Mackey Arena

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
 The Purdue men's basketball team opens the 2019 calendar year with the resumption of Big Ten play as Iowa visits Mackey Arena on Thursday. The contest will be televised on BTN with Dave Revsine and Stephen Bardo calling the action courtside, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. 

On the radio waves, the contest will be available on the Purdue Radio Network and TuneIn.com with Larry Clisby, Rob Blackman and Ralph Taylor on the call, beginning with the Purdue Basketball pregame show at 6 p.m. 

Live stats will be provided on PurdueSports.com, and Twitter updates will be available on Purdue's official account (@BoilerBall). 

Purdue is looking for its third straight win and for a 2-1 record or better in Big Ten play for the fifth straight year (last year was 3-0).

The Boilermakers are also looking for their second straight win against a ranked league squad, defeating Maryland on Dec. 6.

Purdue will hit the road for its next two games at Michigan State and Wisconsin.

THE TWO TEAMS
• Purdue enters Saturday's contest with the Hawkeyes with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in league play. 
• The Boilermakers found their defense in the last outing, holding Belmont almost 30 points below its average in a 73-62 victory on Dec. 29. 
• Meanwhile, Purdue has also found its offensive footing in the last three games, averaging 82.7 points during the current stretch. 
• Carsen Edwards continues to play at a high level, averaging 25.8 points and 3.5 assists, ranking second nationally in scoring. 
• Ryan Cline averages 13.1 points per game and is 34th nationally in 3-ptrs made (40).
• Iowa is 11-2 overall and enters Thursday's game as winners of five straight games by a combined 106 points. The Hawkeyes went 11-0 against non-conference opponents.
• Tyler Cook leads a potent Iowa attack by averaging 16.8 points per game. Six other players average at least 7.0 points per game and Iowa averages 83.2 points per outing.

• Purdue is 8-1 under Matt Painter against Iowa at Mackey Arena. 
• Of Purdue's first nine Big Ten games, eight are against ranked teams (Maryland, Michigan, Iowa, MSU 2x, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio St.).
