No. 14 Michigan Powers Past No. 35 Purdue

April 4, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 14 Michigan powered past the 35th-ranked Purdue women's tennis team, 7-0, in the first outdoor match of the season at the Schwartz Tennis Center Saturday. The Boilermakers were dealt their third-straight loss and slipped to 10-5, 3-3 B1G. With the victory, the Wolverines extended their winning streak to 10 straight and moved to 16-3, 7-0 B1G on the season.

Michigan's two nationally ranked doubles teams were credited with securing the doubles point. Finishing first in the No. 2 position, 58th-ranked Sarah Lee and Ronit Yurovsky defeated the Boilermaker tandem of Lynda Xepoleas and Natalia Davila, 8-2.

Facing a 7-4 deficit, Purdue's 55th-ranked duo of Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Daniela Vidal chipped away at No. 12 Alex Najarian and Emina Bektas' lead to even it at 7-7, forcing the tiebreak. Their momentum was denied by the Wolverine pair, who prevailed 7-4, taking the match and earning the point. Bernard-Feigenbaum and Vidal are now 12-5 and 8-4 as the Boilermakers' No. 1 doubles team.

Of the six singles matches contested, Michigan took five of six in straight sets and brought an end to two lengthy individual winning streaks.

At No. 2, Bernard-Feigenbaum saw her seven-match winning streak come to a close as Yurovsky clinched the dual match victory for Michigan, 6-4, 6-3. The setback was the third of her junior campaign this spring, bringing her to 14-3 and 11-3 in the No. 2 slot.

The final match out on the courts came down to the 10-point breaker in lieu of a third set between Krisztina Kapitany and Mira Ruder-Hook. Kapitany battled back from a 6-4 loss in the opening set to take taking the second by the same score. The race to 10 however was controlled by Ruder-Hook, who jumped out to a 7-0 advantage before winning it, 10-3. The loss was the first for Kapitany since Jan. 24, ending her 10-match winning streak and bringing her spring mark to 11-3.

Claudia Escribens made her third dual appearance of the season, entering Purdue's lineup at No. 6, but fell to Sara Remynse, 6-3, 6-1.

The Old Gold & Black have a quick turnaround as they are back in action Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center against No. 43 Michigan State. First serves are scheduled for 10 a.m. ET.
