MINNEAPOLIS - No. 31 Minnesota handed the Purdue men's tennis team a 4-0 setback Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center. The loss brought the Boilermakers' record to 4-11, while suffering their third B1G loss. The Gophers registered their third-straight victory and lifted their record to 13-5, 4-0 B1G.
Minnesota's two nationally ranked doubles teams were responsible for securing the point. In the top spot, 49th-ranked Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg defeated Purdue's Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla, 8-1. Arthur Dobradin and Mateus Silva suffered an 8-4 loss to No. 76 Leandro Toledo and Feliz Corwin, awarding the point to the Gophers.
Only three singles matches were played to completion, with all three going to Minnesota in straight sets. No. 1 was first to finish, with Acosta falling to 25th-ranked Toledo, 6-2, 6-4. Ruben Weber provided the third point at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Medinilla and Corwin closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-3 showing against Boilermaker freshman Renan Hanayama.
Purdue will continue on the road, traveling to Wisconsin for a Sunday match. Action from the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. ET. The Badgers (5-12, 1-3 B1G) split their matches on Friday, losing to Indiana, 5-2, and defeating SIU Edwardsville, 4-1.
